COUNTING DOWN TO 'THUNDER AT THE ROCK' BIKE FESTIVAL
Music, Motorcycles, and More in June-18-19 Lifestyle Event
at Rockingham Dragway
ROCKINGHAM – Can you hear the thunder? It's just a faint rumble
now but, come June, it will reverberate throughout the
grandstands, the pits, the parking lots and the campgrounds that
comprise the Rockingham Dragway complex. It will fill the air,
awakening senses and emotions too long muted by events of the past
The countdown officially has begun to Thunder at the Rock, a
celebration of motorcycles and the men and women who love them.
Drag racing, bike show, exhibition runs, games,
music, food, and fun. Mark the dates. Friday, June 18. Saturday,
Camping available starting Thursday, June 17, with admission into
the campground only. Advance reservation rates are $65 Thursday,
$60 Friday, and $45 Saturday and that price includes admission
into all events. General admission tickets only, not including
camping, are $25 daily at the gate or $35 for the weekend for
those taking advantage of the advance purchase option.
Among the scheduled on-track events are exhibition runs by Bobby
Hoover's Pro Fuel Harley, grudge runs run by Lumbee Racing, two
daily rounds of Outlaw Arm Drop drag races, sponsored by Burnout
Alley, open to all street bikes, two daily rounds of track prep
drags, sidecar races and the Big Dog LED Light Show and parade.
Beyond the guard walls, entertainment options will include the
Backyard Baggers Sound Off. Backyard Baggers will also be
coordinating a Custom Bike Show, which will recognize first,
second, and third place winners in classes that include Sportster,
Chopper, Custom Modified, Semi-Modified, Stock and Trike.
The fun zone will include participation events like the Jive
Turkey mini-bike game, weenie bite, slow ride, barrel race, and
potato hunt. There will be a tattoo contest judged by an artist
from Showtime Tattoos as well as a body painting contest.
Among the bands performing during the two-wheel festival will be
the Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute band Brickyard Road. Also, Mother
Trucker, Fair Warning, and Skyndeep, the music interrupted only by
Friday night's Wet T-Shirt Contest and Saturday's Bikini Contest.
